EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A movie theater chain that is expanding with two new locations in El Paso is promising moviegoers unique food dishes.
Recently, Flix Brewhouse took over both Alamo Drafthouse cinema locations in El Paso– the one in Montecillo Boulevard in West El Paso and the one in Far East El Paso on Pellicano Drive.
On Thursday, Flix Brewhouse held an event called “Pints & Sound Bites” to introduce new menu items promising to appease fans of the Alamo Drafthouse theater chain, saying that they will fill the void with movies and better food.

“It’s gonna feel similar [to the Alamo Drafthouse], right? Because we are a dine-in cinema, we’re still going to have incredible service right there at your seat, but we’re gonna elevate the game a little bit,” said VP of Operations at Flix Brewhouse David Meillier.
Among the new menu items, you will find a “Truffle Shuffle” pizza with an alfredo sauce base, mushrooms and truffles, “The Butcher” pizza, which has five different meats.

On the new menu you will also find the Korean “BBQ Bowl” which– for those who know and love Korean food (like this humble journalist does) will be delighted to learn is pretty much like a traditional Korean bibimbap bowl: white rice topped with an assortment of vegetables, beef, a fried egg and made-in-house kimchi.

Meillier added that a lot of the staff from the Alamo Drafthouse stayed to manage the theaters after the rebranding.
“Family is important to us, Meillier said. “It was important to us that we retain as many people as we possibly could. Every single manager who worked at Alamo prior was retained and almost every team member, I believe. We offered everyone a job… They’re all very excited about joining the Flix team.”
Meillier said that knowing that the two Alamo Drafthouses closing were going to leave a void, the team decided to execute the rebrand quickly and quietly, in just 12 days; however, he thinks now is the time to get loud.
“Scream 7 opens tonight, and we’re just excited to go after it now,” Meillier said.
And in case you’re wondering why the new rebranded locations don’t look too different from the Alamo Drafthouses, Meillier stressed that it was more important to keep the staff employed than to shut down, adding that they will slowly alter the decor so it is more in tune with the Flix brand.

Now, speaking on how fast everything happened, Meillier addressed the elephant in the room and what many patrons of the Alamo might be thinking: are they gonna honor my Alamo tickets and gift cards?
Meillier explained that anyone who bought tickets in advance with the Alamo should have been reimbursed by now.
Regarding gift cards, Meillier said Flix will honor them with tickets or food, adding that another option is to go to any of the other Alamo Drafthouse locations in the U.S.
Looking into the future, Meillier said people should expect Fan Fest in March, where they will screen cult classic The Big Lebowski with a tie-in menu and merchandise.
With three locations in El Paso, “There’s now a Flix in everyone’s backyard and we are all just so excited to be able to share the Flix experience with the whole El Paso community.
And for opportunities to collaborate with the theater to screen your indie film, Meillier said, reach out to them through FlixBrewhouse.com
