FORT WORTH, Texas — A high-speed pursuit that began in Ellis County ended in Fort Worth early Thursday morning after suspects fired at officers, according to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident unfolded around 3:30 a.m. when an Ellis County patrol officer heard gunshots near a county road and observed a suspect vehicle speeding through a stop sign near Singleton Rd. and FM 875. The officer initiated a pursuit, during which suspects fired at the officer, prompting additional Ellis County officers to join the chase.

The pursuit extended into Fort Worth, where East Division officers also came under fire from the suspect vehicle. Officers reported seeing items being discarded from the vehicle, and a firearm was later recovered in the area, according to the press release.

Despite the deployment of spike strips, the suspect vehicle continued to evade officers until it lost control and crashed on its side at the 6300 block of Camp Bowie Blvd. Five suspects were inside the vehicle; four complied with officer commands and exited, while the fifth remained inside.

A drone was used to assess the situation, and officers found an unresponsive male inside the vehicle. All four suspects, including the unresponsive individual, were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The fifth suspect refused medical treatment and is in custody.

One Fort Worth police officer sustained a minor injury during the incident. The investigation is ongoing, as stated in the report #260014347.
