Traffic impacts expected
Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Lewis (Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office)
Drivers should expect traffic delays Friday morning as a procession is held to honor Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Kenneth Lewis, who died after being struck by a vehicle while helping a stranded motorist.
FBCSO will escort Deputy Lewis from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences to a funeral home in Katy. The procession is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. today.
Deputy Lewis will be transported from the medical examiner’s office at 1861 Old Spanish Trail in Houston to Schmidt Funeral Home, located at 1344 West Grand Parkway South in Katy.
According to the sheriff’s office, staging for law enforcement and first responders who wish to participate in the escort will begin around 7 a.m. A Wall of Honor will be held before the procession departs.
Once underway, the procession is expected to travel along portions of the Westpark Toll Road westbound and State Highway 99 northbound. Motorists are urged to be patient and plan for possible delays along the route.
The driver involved fled the scene, and Houston police are still working to identify them. Anyone with information is urged to contact investigators.
