EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso County voters will decide next week who will represent the Republican Party in the race for county judge, setting up a November contest against incumbent County Judge Ricardo Samaniego.

Guadalupe “Lupe” Giner is running in the Republican primaries next week against Minerva Torres Shelton. The winner of that primary will face Samaniego in November.

During a morning interview, Giner was asked why voters should re-elect her and, if re-elected, what her priorities would be. She was also questioned about property taxes and what she would propose to realistically ease the burden on homeowners.

The interview also focused on concerns about AI data centers in El Paso and their potential impact on local resources, including what Giner believes needs to be done.

Immigration detention was another topic, with questions centered on East Camp Montana at Fort Bliss, described as one of the biggest immigration detention centers in the country and located on federal land.

Giner was also asked about the possibility of another detention center in Socorro that would fall under the county, and what she thinks needs to be done.
