The San Antonio Police Department has confirmed the identity of the man killed in a three-vehicle crash that shut down Interstate 10 in northwest San Antonio on Thursday, February 26.

Police said Patrick C. McPhaul, 42, briefly stepped outside of his vehicle to speak with a driver after a minor crash on the interstate. As he returned to his vehicle, the driver of a Chevy work truck hit him from behind and then hit him a second time after he slammed into a concrete barrier, according to police.

The fatal incident occurred at approximately 10:21 a.m. near the Camp Bullis Road exit and The Rim shopping district. The crash shut down the westbound lanes of the highway for several hours.

McPhaul was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:08 a.m., according to Bexar County records. Police say this is an ongoing investigation.
