Chip Roy running for Texas Attorney General

  • February 27, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – One of the men running to take over as Texas’ top attorney made a campaign stop in Lubbock. Congressman Chip Roy is a Republican running for Attorney General.

Congressman Roy wants to make the move from Washington to Austin because he says he wants to defend what he calls Texas values.

His experience includes time as a federal prosecutor and in the Attorney General’s Office.

“We’d like to quit, but there isn’t another Texas to move to. It’s actually true. So we’ve got to preserve and protect it,” he said. “It can grow, it can change, we can adapt — all great things. We prosper and grow as a state, but we have to keep our core values, defend out state from the onslaught of an open border if we get another Biden/Mayorkas situation.”

Congressman Jodey Arrington shared his endorsement for Roy.

“I am honored to support my good friend Chip Roy for Texas Attorney General,” Arrington said.

“The tenacity, skill, and strength of leadership my fellow Texan brought to Congress has made him a force for change in Washington. Working together on the Budget Committee, and alongside President Trump, we delivered transformative welfare reform, cuts to Green New Scam subsidies, and the single biggest spending reduction in American history. As a Texan with deep West Texas roots — and a Red Raider for a dad – Chip is uniquely qualified to be Attorney General of Texas at a time when we need a courageous and proven fighter with deep legal knowledge and prosecutorial experience to defend our state.”

Congressman Roy is running against three Republicans for the nomination, state Senator Joan Huffman, state representative Mayes Middleton and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron Reitz.

Whoever wins will face the winner of the Democratic primary in November.
