Austin ISD projecting larger budget deficit than initially expected

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin ISD leaders are now expecting a larger budget gap than previously planned.

The district is now projecting a $49 million budget deficit by the end of 2026, far surpassing the previous projection of $19 million. The district said part of the issue leading to the larger deficit is lower than expected tax revenue from property sales.

The district does have plans to sell more former campuses in the coming years.
