Keller ISD Superintendent Cory Wilson announced the criteria for the district’s campus consolidation plan at a regular board meeting Feb. 25.

In a nutshell

Wilson said the Long Range Planning and Citizens Bond Advisory committees met Feb. 24 to finalize the guidelines for the district’s campus consolidation plan. The committees plan to consider the following guidelines:

Districtwide grade alignment and configurationCampus occupancy and utilization ratesConditions of district facilitiesCost of bringing facilities to complianceTransportationLimiting the amount of staff and student disruptions“We have to look at how much disruption do we truly want to do while accomplishing our overall goal of realizing savings and become more efficient in the operations of the schools,” Wilson said.

The district is organizing several proposals based on the above guidelines to present to the two committees at the next meeting March 10. Wilson said the final proposal will be brought to the district’s board for approval likely in April.

Keller ISD officials are requesting a missed school day waiver after four days of school and facility closures during Winter Storm Fern.

The district is seeking permission from the Texas Education Agency to waive two school days due to inclement weather closures, according to district documents. The district closed its facilities Jan. 26-29 because of hazardous travel conditions that prevented in-person instruction.

Waivers can be requested after any emergency related to weather, health safety or other unanticipated issues related to inclement weather, according to district documents. The missed school day waivers will cover Jan. 28-29, meaning the school district will not have to make up instructional time due to the storm.
