CALLAHAN COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A Dallas man was killed early Friday morning following a crash at a rest area along Interstate 20 in Callahan County.
Vargas Samuel Angel, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision, which occurred around 2:33 a.m. at the eastbound rest stop near mile marker 297.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a vehicle was traveling east on I-20, exited into the roadside rest area, and struck the rear of a legally parked tractor-trailer. Police say the impact ejected the driver from the vehicle. The car then caught fire and burned.
Two occupants inside the parked commercial truck were asleep at the time of the crash and were not injured.
The crash remains under investigation, and no further information has been released.
