Edward was born on September 25, 1943, in Delray Beach, Florida, to Gladys McCray. He spent most of his childhood between Delray Beach and Starke, Florida. Upon graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, starting a career that spanned 28 years (4 years in security police and 24 years in personnel) and saw him stationed in various places stateside, as well as overseas in Guam, Turkey, and South Korea. During one of his assignments at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, TX, he met and married Andrea Martin, beginning a lifelong relationship that produced two children and multiple grandchildren. After retiring from the military, he started his second career as a mail sorter with the United States Postal Service. He was employed with them for 15 years, finally deciding to retire for good in 2010. His free time was spent walking, watching westerns, updating his kids on current events, attending his grandkids’ games, and playing Texas Lotto scratch-offs. There was never a day when you saw him that he didn’t have one in his hands. Edward was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Andrea Martin McCray; mother, Gladys McCray; and sister, Dorothy Buie. He is survived by his daughter, Angela McCray-Tomblin; son, Everett McCray (Julie); grandchildren, Anastasia Tomblin, Anessa Tomblin, Elexander McCray, Ezekiel McCray, Elijah McCray, and Enrique McCray; brother, Willie Cleckley, Jr. (Yvonne); sister, Lorraine Brown; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
