An active shooter has been reported at the Green Light Bar in Austin, TX, which has led to a mass shooting in downtown Austin. People were said to be running from the scene as police arrived.
Gunshots were also heard being fired at Buford’s on the 700 block of West 6th Street, which prompted an evacuation. More than 10 people have reportedly been injured in the shooting at the intersection of 6th Street and Rio Grande.
One witness said that 17 shots were fired, according to X. While the shooting is yet to be confirmed by authorities, plenty of witnesses have spoken about the incident on social media.

“My son was caught in a mass shooting in Austin tx pray please saints. He is safe but chaos on the streets,” said one person. Another added, “There was a shooting where I was tonight pray for the people in Austin.”
“My friend is down there and she says someone opened fired in with an AR 15, at least 2 deceased, sounded like 13 or so shot, medics currently working. Sounds like the situation is secured but shooter not yet caught,” said another user.

Police have now released a statement following the shooting, telling people to avoid the area on Rio Grande street.
“Austin Police officers are on scene investigating an Officer Involved Shooting in the 600 block of Rio Grande Street. The suspect is deceased. The incident originated as a shoot/stab hotshot incident with multiple people injured. Please avoid the area. More information to follow. Media briefing location is Republic Square Park. Briefing time TBD,” Austin Police Department wrote on X.
Reporter Tony Plohetski wrote on X, “Austin police have responded to what they are calling a mass shooting downtown along West Sixth Street and say as many as 20 people have been injured. The suspect has been shot by police. Multiple fatalities have been confirmed by authorities.”
This comes after a crime spree in Pahokee, Florida, left two people dead, and a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy is in hospital, with three crime scenes involved. The suspect hit a deputy with a car, then got out with a gun and was shot dead by the deputy.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office told local media that the shooting happened near Doveland Drive in Pahokee.
Meanwhile, last week, a deadly shooting during a youth hockey game in Rhode Island left three people dead, authorities said Wednesday. Officials said the shooter was specifically targeting his family members.
