FORT WORTH – Jeneva LaRue Hughes, 94, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 21, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Service: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville, Texas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2026, in the Sandburg Suite at Mount Olivet. LaRue was born on December 31, 1931, to Joseph Weldon and Vera Lee Hawpe. On her 16th birthday in 1947, she began a life marked by commitment and love and married James Hughes. They shared 52 devoted years of marriage until his passing in 2000. Together they built a family grounded in faith, generosity, and enduring love. LaRue was a loving wife and a nurturing mother to her three children: David, Janis, and Vickie. She was the cherished matriarch of her family, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her Christian faith defined her life. Many years ago, she developed a profound love for God’s Word and her Bible was her most treasured possession. For the past 14 years, she faithfully led a text ministry, sending daily Scripture messages to more than 50 people, encouraging them with the hope and truth she held dear. She walked through many difficult seasons, yet her unwavering trust in the Lord carried her through. The greatest gift she gave her family was the example of a life lived wholeheartedly for Christ. Her life was a testimony to her deep love for Christ, her devotion to her family, and her faithful service to her church. LaRue was a devoted member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she served for many years as a deacon’s wife and a faithful Sunday School teacher. She taught children of all ages, ultimately finding special joy in guiding teenage girls, studying diligently for each lesson and praying fervently for every student entrusted to her care. She also sang joyfully in the choir and often performed special music before the pastor’s sermon. After thyroid surgery in 2010 altered her singing voice, she joked about sounding “like a baritone,” and today her family finds comfort in imagining her voice fully restored in praise. In addition to her ministry work, LaRue had a passion for painting and was a member of the Fort Worth Decorative Painters Society, where she formed many treasured friendships. Her family cared for her with faithful devotion, and for the last seven years of her life, she lived with loved ones who were a great comfort and blessing to her. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; her son, David; and her great-grandson, Ryan. LaRue’s legacy continues through her children, Janis Briggs and her husband, Larry, and Vickie Joines and her husband, Bobby; her 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom she loved deeply and prayed for faithfully. Her life leaves a lasting imprint of faith, love, and devotion that will continue for generations. MOUNT OLIVET CHAPEL Greenwood Funeral Homes – Cremation 2301 N.
