Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson’s office has denied The Dallas Morning News’ report that he canceled public appearances amid security concerns.
The Dallas Morning News published an article on October 23, claiming Johnson had suspended public appearances due to security concerns. However, Johnson’s office said this was untrue.
“We’ve seen the report about the cancellation. The statement, as reported, is false,” said Noah DeGarmo, Johnson’s chief communications officer, to The Dallas Express. “Mayor Johnson spoke at a public event earlier this morning and has more events scheduled in the days ahead.”
The Dallas Morning News’ initial headline read, “Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson suspends public appearances, citing security concerns.” But at the time of this article’s publication, the headline read, “Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson misses public event, office won’t say why.”
The outlet updated the article at 4:59 p.m. to include a comment from Johnson’s office and Dallas Workforce Czar Lynn McBee, who initially said the mayor’s “public appearances are being temporarily suspended for security reasons.” She later corrected the statement, saying it was incorrect.
