The University of Cincinnati women’s basketball team dropped its final home game of the season, falling 84-70 to Texas Christian University on Feb. 25 at Fifth Third Arena.
The Bearcats opened the game strong, as senior guard Mya Perry and junior guard Reagan Jackson combined to push UC into double digits early. Cincinnati held a narrow lead through the opening stretch, but TCU kept pace and remained within striking distance.
UC shot 35% from the field and 37% from the three-point line, while TCU shot 45% from the field and 34% from beyond the arc.
Both teams were working hard on offense, but TCU had quick ball movement, forcing UC’s defense to open up, giving them shot opportunities.
As the second half began, it was clear that TCU was hungry to reclaim their lead as they put immense pressure on UC.
TCU graduate student forward Marta Suarez made a deep three to reclaim the lead for the Horned Frogs making the score 30-29
Suarez drained yet another three-pointer off the assist from first-year center Emily Hunter.
TCU seemed to be on a hot streak with three pointers. The Horned Frogs made another open three before head coach Katrina Merriweather called a timeout.
The Horned Frogs made five of their seven field goals attempts during that stretch to increase their lead by eight making the score 38-30.
First-year guard Caliyah DeVillasee put some points on the board for the Bearcats, shooting a quick mid-range shot to put two on the board.
TCU responded with another mid-range jumper to continue their lead.
Before the end of the third, TCU was shooting 80% from the free-throw line and 38% from the field.
After a long timeout, A technical foul was called on first-year guard Dee Alexander, awarding TCU two free throws to extend their lead by six.
While both teams were putting up a fight, TCU continued to make three-point shots. UC struggled with defensive rebounds, giving TCU the opportunity to maximize scoring opportunities on transitions.
TCU graduate student guard Olivia Miles became a problem for the Bearcats as they had a hard time containing her from the three-point line.
The Horned Frogs extended their lead to 20 points with 8:21 remaining in the fourth.
DeVillasee began to give the Bearcats some momentum after getting a quick steal to put it around the rim.
As TCU fourth-year center Kennedy Basham attempted to make a layup, UC third-year center Delaney Snyder made a massive block to give the Bearcats possession.
Both teams exchanged points back and forth. UC made strides to come back but could not put together enough offense.
UC was slacking on defense for the majority of the game, giving TCU multiple opportunities to get offensive rebounds and get multiple shot opportunities.
It really showed in the fourth when they continued to have fast ball movement and make open threes. TCU closed out the game, taking away the Bearcats chance of a final home win.
Up next for the Bearcats, UC is set to take on the West Virginia University Mountaineers in Morgantown, West Virginia, on March 1, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
