The Library was a long-running bar that succeeded on a simple concept: if you keep the drinks cheap, they will come. And they did, myself included. Primarily focused on a college crowd (sometimes with a hefty door fee if you didn’t have a college ID), it was a default place to go as there was ample space and ample drinks- and it didn’t hurt to have pool tables either.

Why Did The Library Close?
The closure led some on the internet to speculate that the Depot is in decline in general. Construction in the area certainly didn’t help, but now that it is finally over, some are pushing for revitalization efforts for the Depot. It appears that the closure of The Library is primarily to remodel and rebrand, which most nightlife bars do over the course of their existence.

What’s The Dean’s List?
The Dean’s List is the new concept for The Library, keeping with an academic theme, and I imagine still catering primarily to college students. They recently posted a remodelling progress video to their Facebook page, and have been posting contests to drum up excitement:
When Will The Dean’s List Open?
Lubbock in the Loop (who is always on top of these things) has the opening listed as To Be Announced, so we don’t have any definite answers yet. However, if you have driven past the building recently, you may have already noticed changes happening outside. As more information becomes available about opening night, specials or events, we will likely see announcements on social media.
