EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Gas prices in El Paso recently went up 10 cents in one day, according to the AAA’s website.
Oil, gasoline prices jump amid Iran strikes, with future uncertain
AAA’s website shows El Paso’s gas average for Sunday, March 1, was $2.809, and on Monday, March 2, the gas price went up to $2.898.
Video captured by KTSM crews on Monday shows a Circle K gas station in West El Paso near UTEP, with the gas price of $3.19.

National average gas prices on AAA’s website show about a one-cent increase from Sunday to Monday.

This comes after the AAA reported that the seasonal rise in gas prices is underway as spring is right around the corner.
Refineries are beginning the process of producing “summer-blend” gasoline, which contains pricier additives that help reduce evaporation during the warmer months, according to the AAA.
“Gas demand is also expected to increase next month as spring break season kicks off and more drivers take road trips,” AAA said.
Other sources suggest that the current war in the Middle East can also cause oil and gas prices to rise.
“The price of global benchmark Brent Crude oil was at about $77 per barrel as of Monday afternoon, up from about $71 a week ago and about $66 per barrel a month ago,” according to the Hill.
The U.S. and Israel launched strikes against Iran on Saturday, Feb. 28, and President Trump says the conflict could last four to five weeks or even more.
The longer the conflict lasts, the more oil and gas prices could go up, according to The Hill.
“Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst for Gulf Oil, estimated that gas prices could peak at between $3.25 and $3.50 per gallon this spring,” the Hill said.
The Straight of Hormuz, which is a strait or corridor that controls 20 percent of the world’s oil consumption, could also put a restriction on oil supply, as the strait is located between Oman and Iran.
