FORT WORTH – Doris A. Atherton, 98, passed away Friday, February 20, 2026. Graveside Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2026, in the Breyley Suite at Mount Olivet. Doris was born on July 26, 1927. She grew up in Fort Worth and later married her husband Sam in 1960. They moved to Benbrook in 1962 where they built a home and a life together that would hold more than sixty years of cherished memories. Doris loved her country music, especially her favorite singer, Daniel O’Donnell. Saturday nights were spent watching him perform and watching her beloved old western shows, which were the highlight of her week. She also had a fondness for good Mexican food and dressing to the nines, in her beautiful dresses and outfits for a day of shopping. One of her greatest joys was dressing up for church. Doris loved putting on her prettiest clothes to worship the Lord and to gather with her cherished church family. Her faith was a guiding and guarding presence in her life. She loved to travel and saw many places, but her most treasured memories were made while cruising with her children, grandchildren, and their spouses. More than anything, Doris loved sitting in the sunshine surrounded by her family – her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Today, we imagine her once again sitting beside Sam, together in the eternal sunshine of the Lord. Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sam; her daughter, Judy; and her sisters, Janelle, Betty, and Carol. Doris is survived by her daughters, Linda and Bettie; her grandchildren, David, Chase, Jason, Christy, and Jennifer, along with their spouses; and a growing legacy of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who loved their grandmother dearly.
