Just days after the release of their latest album, “The Mountain,” Gorillaz announced their tour stop at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Just days after the release of their latest album, Gorillaz have announced a stop at Dickies Arena as part of their “The Mountain” tour.

The animated band is set to hit the stage on Friday, October 16. They will also be joined by rapper Little Simz and group Deltron 3030, both of which have collaborated with Gorillaz in the past.

The last time the band visited North Texas was in 2022, after the release of their album “Cracker Island,” when they played at the Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory. The opening act was with the duo EarthGang, who collaborated on the song “Opium” with the band.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Gorillaz creators Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett both discussed exploring the themes of grief and death while creating The Mountain.

Many tracks in the album feature former Gorillaz collaborators who have since died, such as actor Dennis Hopper, the Fall’s Mark E. Smith, De La Soul’s Dave ‘Trugoy’ Jolicoeur, soul legend Bobby Womack, and Afrobeat pioneer Tony Allen.

In the interview, both Albarn and Hewlett discussed the loss of their fathers just days apart and the reconnection the two had to explore and process grief through music.

Gorillaz is made up of four animated characters, Murdoc Niccals, 2-D, Russel Hobbs, and Noodle. During their live performances, Albarn will take the stage with a full band to perform. Behind the band are accompanying visuals from specific music videos or scenes from previous album art.

Segments from their short accompanying music video, The Mountain, The Moon Cave, and The Sad God,  will likely be shown during the performance.
