LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — Las Cruces Public Schools on Wednesday held one of two information sessions this week to discuss the district’s upcoming school bond and mill levy election.
Superintendent Ignacio Ruiz explained Wednesday that the measures aim to support student learning and maintain safe, modern facilities without raising the tax rate.
According to Las Cruces Public Schools, a key focus of these measures is the renovation of Mayfield High School, which will unlock state funding and address outdated facilities.
“Mayfield High School is going to be our next, you know, large project, renovation project of a high school. And so these dollars would go to be able to complete things like our phase one, our design of that project,” Ruiz said.
Ruiz emphasized that the bond and levy will not increase the tax rate, allowing residents to fund improvements for less than the cost of a daily cup of coffee.
While discussions continue, community members are encouraged to attend another informational session at Organ Mountain High School at 6 p.m. on Thursday to learn more and ask questions.
