Hays County has released early voting totals for the Democratic primary race for the county’s criminal district attorney between Landon Bryan Campbell and Alfonso O. Salazar.

What you need to know

According to unofficial early voting results, Salazar leads with 12,880 votes, or 53.05%. Campbell has 11,397 votes, or 46.95%.

The candidate who receives over 50% of the votes will win the Democratic position on the November ballot and run uncontested. If a candidate does not win at least 50% of the votes, a runoff election will be held May 26.

What else?

In early voting, there were 34,599 ballots cast countywide, which represents 17.9% of Hays County’s 192,945 voters.

Totals from ballots cast March 1 have yet to be released. Polls opened at 7 a.m. and closed at 7 p.m.
