SIERRA BLANCA, Texas — According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), a vehicle ran into the Sierra Blanca Border Patrol border checkpoint causing a law enforcement response.

The perpetrator, who hasn’t yet been identified, fled the checkpoint and was involved in a chase on I-10 near Kent, Texas. The driver also shot at law enforcement, according to the Texas DPS post on X. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area while the investigation into the incident continues.

U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-San Antonio, said on X that he has been in contact with border patrol and that the situation is under control.

“Agents are safe and the threat has been neutralized,” Gonzales said. “The Sierra Blanca check point is the 2nd busiest in the United States. We all are grateful to the men and women on the front lines who keep America safe.”

Texas DPS says that more information will become available soon as investigations into the incident which are currently underway have concluded. There is no threat to the public at this time.
