A man apparently shot and killed himself and a woman was shot during a family fight at a home in the far East Side, an El Paso Police Department official said.

The shooting occurred about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, when patrol officers arrived at a call of an aggravated family fight in progress at a home in the 14200 block of Armando Silva Drive, police spokesman Sgt. Robert Gomez said.

“Officers were outside the door when they heard gunshots,” Gomez said.

The home is near the northern end of Rich Beem Boulevard in a neighborhood north of Montana Avenue.

When officers entered the home, they found a 29-year-old woman who had been shot. She was transported to University Medical Center of El Paso with serious injuries, Gomez said.

A 37-year-old man died at the scene, Gomez said. “We do believe the male suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Gomez added.

An investigation by detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit continues, including looking into a motive, Gomez said. The names of those involved were not immediately released.
