Corpus Christi, Texas – Wet roads and reduced visibility could slow drivers along I-37 and US-181 beginning Saturday morning as a two-day rain event sets up across South Texas, with the heaviest totals northwest of the Coastal Bend through Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, a pattern shift will bring increasing rain chances starting Saturday and continuing through Sunday night. Rainfall totals are expected to range from around a quarter inch near the coast to more than 1 inch across inland and northwestern communities, with isolated pockets approaching 1.5 inches.

Across the region, areas near Cotulla, Tilden and portions of La Salle and McMullen counties stand the best chance of seeing the highest totals. Closer to Corpus Christi, Alice, Beeville and areas along US-77 could pick up between 0.25 and 1 inch of rain. Periods of steady showers may create ponding on roadways, especially on SPID, TX-358 and low-lying frontage roads.
Rain chances increase sharply by Saturday afternoon and remain elevated through much of Sunday, with the highest coverage expected Sunday. Drivers should allow extra travel time and avoid water-covered roads, particularly at night when depth is harder to judge.
While widespread flooding is not anticipated at this time, repeated showers over the same locations could lead to localized street flooding. Residents should monitor updates through the weekend as rainfall totals may adjust and additional advisories could be issued if heavier bands develop.
