Retired Texans star J.J. Watt named to Houston Sports Hall of Fame

HOUSTON – Retired Texans star defensive end J.J. Watt, a future lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, was inducted into the Houston Sports Hall of Fame.

Watt was announced Wednesday night.

Watt, a Ring of Honor member along with Andre Johnson, Bob McNair and Janice McNair, is a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Watt owns the franchise record with 101 career sacks and he recorded 172 tackles for losses with 282 quarterback hits. Overall, Watt finished his career with 114 1/2 sacks, 194 tackles for losses and 317 quarterback hits with 70 forced fumbles and two interceptions returned for touchdowns.

Drafted in the first round out of Wisconsin in 2011, Watt, 36, retired after the 2022 season after playing for the Arizona Cardinals for two seasons.

Watt is a former Walter Payton Man of the Year known for his philanthropy, especially raising funds for hurricane relief.

He is a five-time All-Pro selection.

Watt is eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2028.
