Incumbent Texas Rep. Andy Hopper has declared victory in the Republican primary for Texas House District 64. Hopper leads with 71% of votes to challenger Lisa McEntire’s 29%.
In the Democratic primary, Julie Evans has taken the lead with 53% of votes counted so far. Her opponent Christie Wood has 47% of the vote.
House District 64 covers all of Wise County and part of Denton County. There are 204,000 people in the district, according to state data.
Hopper was first elected in 2024 after defeating incumbent Republican Lynn Stucky in the primaries. Hopper’s main priorities include abolishing property taxes, securing the Texas border, and protecting the right to bear arms, among other issues, according to his website.
The primary winners will advance to the November general election.
The term length for the seat is two years.
