A Fort Worth home caught fire after it was struck by lightning during a severe thunderstorm Wednesday night, causing the roof to collapse, officials said.

The Fort Worth Fire Department received multiple calls shortly before 9 p.m. from neighbors reporting a house on fire due to a lightning strike in the 4200 block of Leeds Drive, the fire department said in a social media post.

“Neighbors immediately ran to the house, banging on the front door, to ensure everyone was outside safely,” officials said.

Firefighters arrived and saw the fire spreading from the roof of a two-story corner home. The crew went inside and started fighting the fire, and additional lines were run to access the attic, officials said.

Firefighters fought the blaze for over an hour while protecting the homes on either side from exposure, the department said.

The chimney collapsed into the roof, but there were no injuries as everyone had been removed from the home, officials said.

The fire was under control at 10:35 p.m., the department said.
