EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — A Transmountain Early College High School senior earned a highly competitive Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps scholarship worth an estimated $200,000 on Thursday.
According to the El Paso Independent School District, Faith Jeon was selected to receive the National Navy ROTC Scholarship, an award granted to only 14 students across the region during the most recent scholarship board.
The scholarship provides 100 percent college tuition at more than 160 colleges and universities nationwide, along with a monthly tax-free stipend ranging from $250 to $400 and additional educational benefits and fees.
Recipients of the scholarship also have the opportunity to be commissioned as a United States Navy officer upon graduation.
“This recognition reflects Faith’s academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to service,” said Transmountain Early College High School Principal Robert Stives. “We are incredibly proud of her achievement and the bright future ahead of her.”
Chief Mark Hambrick, NROTC Scholarship Program Coordinator for Navy Talent Acquisition Group Phoenix, formally presented the scholarship to Jeon during a special recognition event at the school on Thursday.
The district said the NROTC Scholarship program offers students a pathway to graduate college debt-free while preparing for a career of leadership and service in the United States Navy.
