HOUSTON — Federal agents say a shipment bound for Houston was hiding a massive stash of meth inside spools of rope.

According to the DEA’s Houston Division, more than 200 pounds of meth were discovered after authorities used an X-ray scanner to inspect the shipment. Investigators say the drugs had been shipped from Monterrey, Mexico, and were headed for Houston.

The scanner revealed the meth concealed inside the rope spools, allowing authorities to intercept the shipment before it reached its destination.

DEA officials said the case is a reminder that appearances can be misleading when it comes to drug trafficking.

The Houston Police Department’s Interdiction Unit also assisted in the seizure. Authorities did not release additional details about the investigation.
