Texas baseball is one of two remaining undefeated teams entering play Friday. To remain that way, the Longhorns will need to score a victory over USC Upstate in the opener of a three-game set at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (12-0) run-ruled Houston Christian in midweek action. Before that, they took home the title at the Bruce Bolt College Classic in Houston, taking down Coastal Carolina, Baylor and Ohio State.
College baseball’s other remaining unbeaten, the USC Trojans, open Big Ten play Friday at Illinois.
USC Upstate, Texas’ opponent this weekend, hails from South Carolina, not California. Remarkably, the Spartans (7-7) had never played a game West of the Mississippi River before Friday’s matchup with Texas. USC Upstate was thumped by South Carolina in midweek action coming off a series loss at Georgia Southern.
