TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas — A man has been charged with murder after he allegedly fatally shot his sister at an eastern Travis County residence Tuesday morning, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office said.

Courtney Leander Nation, 49, of Austin, is accused of shooting Cynthia Rios Juarez, 63, of Round Rock, at a residence on the 4500 block of Secure Lane, near Hornsby Bend. Juarez was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:01 p.m.

Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance and shooting at approximately 11:27 a.m. When they arrived, they found both Juarez and Nation suffering from gunshot wounds.

CPR was initiated on Juarez immediately, but efforts were unsuccessful. Nation was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to TCSO, Nation shot his sister before being shot by another brother who was present at the residence. No charges are pending against that brother.

Detectives are continuing to interview family members who were present to determine a motive. A search warrant was executed at the residence, and crime scene specialists processed the scene.
