No. 3 Texas Tech women’s soccer took its first conference loss of the season, 3-0, against No. 7 University of Colorado, Boulder, Thursday in Boulder, Colorado.

Tech head coach Tom Stone said earlier in the week that the team would focus on defending inside the box to beat Colorado. Tech allowed two goals from inside the box in the loss.

Ten minutes into the game, Colorado junior midfielder Ava Priest scored her second goal of the season from inside the box.

Colorado junior forward Hope Leyba followed the first goal up two minutes later with a shot on goal, which was saved by Tech senior goalkeeper Faith Nyguen. Leyba took a second shot from outside the box during the 14th minute and scored.

Leyba scored Colorado’s third goal during the 62nd minute from inside the box.

Tech’s offense attempted 10 shots on goal throughout the game, but all were saved by senior goalkeeper Jordan Nytes. Tech held Colorado to seven shots on goal, but only three were saved by Nyguen.

Colorado is 6-1-2 in conference play with its sole loss coming from Baylor University, which Tech beat 1-0 on Sept. 19.

Tech is 6-1-2 in conference play heading into its game against Kansas State University at 1 p.m. Sunday at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
