1. Trump and Abbott’s endorsed candidates split election victories
President Donald Trump’s preferred candidates prevailed in two out of four contests where the president and Gov. Greg Abbott endorsed different picks this primary cycle.
Of the four races, two were for statewide office and two were for congressional races. The Trump-backed candidate won in the race for Texas comptroller and leads heading into the runoff for the 9th Congressional District, while the Abbott-backed candidate won in the contest for agriculture commissioner and is ahead moving into the runoff for 35th Congressional District.
2. Austin police release videos from officers during West 6th Street mass shooting
The Austin Police Department (APD) has released the body-worn camera footage from its officers who responded to Sunday morning’s shooting at a West 6th Street bar, which left three people dead and many others injured. The FBI has said that it is investigating the shooting as a potential act of terrorism.
3. Republican U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales ends reelection bid after admitting to affair with aide
Republican U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas has announced that he will withdraw from his reelection race in a post on X late Thursday, after having admitted an affair with a former staff member who later died by suicide, but he vowed to finish out his term in Congress.
4. Texas judge declines to close Camp Mystic despite family’s request after last year’s floods
A Texas judge on Wednesday ordered Camp Mystic to preserve damaged cabins but stopped short of blocking reopening plans after a family of one of the 25 girls and two counselors who died last summer sued to keep the camp closed.
5. Camp East Montana ICE facility may be closing, report says
According to an internal document reviewed by The Washington Post, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is considering closing its Camp East Montana detention facility. Spectrum News 1 has not independently obtained a copy of the document.

U.S. employers cut surprising 92,000 jobs last month as unemployment rate rises to 4.4%
American employers unexpectedly cut 92,000 jobs last month, a sign that the labor market remains under strain. The unemployment rate blipped up to 4.4%.
The Labor Department reported Friday that hiring deteriorated from January, when companies, nonprofits and government agencies added a healthy 126,000 jobs. Economists had expected 60,000 new jobs in February.
