PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — No. 11 Texas Tech opened play at The Hayt on Saturday with a 1-under-par 287 and is tied for ninth after the first round at Sawgrass Country Club.
The Red Raiders are competing in a stacked 16-team field featuring eight top-25 teams and sit alongside Clemson and USF in ninth heading into Sunday’s second round. No. 6 LSU holds the opening-round lead at 14-under 274, followed by No. 1 Virginia at 12-under. No. 15 Alabama and No. 2 Auburn are tied for third at 9-under.
Connor Graham led Texas Tech with a 4-under 68 and is tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard. Graham finished the round strong, playing bogey-free after the sixth hole and carding four birdies and eight pars over his final 12 holes. Graham, the ninth-ranked player in the latest Scoreboard rankings, is seeking his seventh top-20 finish in seven events this season.
Ben Gregg and Tim Wiedemeyer each turned in even-par 72s and are tied for 35th, while Brady McHenry and Adam Bresnu both shot 3-over 75 to sit tied for 73rd.
Texas Tech continues play on Sunday at 7 a.m. CDT with the second of three rounds at The Hayt. The final round of the scheduled 54 holes of stroke play is Monday.
