FORT WORTH, Texas — A Fort Worth Police Department helicopter made an emergency landing on Saturday night, shortly after taking off, officials said.Â
The helicopter took off around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, en route to an assist officer call, the Fort Worth Police Department said in a press release.Â
Shortly after takeoff, when the helicopter was 100 feet in the air, it experienced a mechanical issue, police said. The pilot attempted to return to the heliport but made an emergency landing on airport property just short of the helipad, the release states.Â
The pilot and a tactical flight officer were on board, police said. Both people were evaluated by the Fort Worth Fire Department and taken to a hospital as a precaution, police said.Â
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.Â
