Every pet owner knows their furry friend is adorable, but this Halloween season only two will earn the crown as the Fort Worth area’s Cutest Cat and Cutest Dog.

The Star-Telegram is inviting readers to show off their pets for our annual Cutest Pet Contest.

Whether your cat is rocking a witch hat or your dog is dressed as a superhero — or they’re just chilling in a spot of sunshine — we want to see them. Costumes are always welcome, but not required.

The submission period begins Monday, Oct. 13, and ends at noon Thursday, Oct. 16.

A newsroom committee of animal lovers will review all entries and select the Top 50 cats and Top 50 dogs to move on to the public voting rounds for two separate polls.

The first round of voting begins Monday, Oct. 20, and ends at midnight on Thursday, Oct. 22.

Round 2 of voting starts at noon Thursday, Oct. 23, and ends at midnight on Monday, Oct. 27.

The winners will be announced in a story on Monday, Nov. 3.

Cutest cat and dog contests are taking place at more than 20 McClatchy newspapers across the country. The winners from each market will automatically be entered into a second contest to determine the Cutest Cat and Cutest Dog in the country, launching Monday, Nov. 10.
