The suspect faces charges of possession of a weapon by a serious violent felon, possession of synthetic urine, possession of marijuana and OWI.
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — A Texas man was arrested Friday night after Indiana State Police say he was speeding in a semi truck while also in possession of a gun and marijuana near Terre Haute.Â
According to a release from ISP, around 7 p.m. on March 6, a trooper was patrolling Interstate 70 near the 7-mile marker, which is near the U.S. 41 exit in Terre Haute, when he clocked a semi truck going 80 mph in a 60 mph zone.Â
The trooper then pulled over the speeding semi truck and identified the driver as a 33-year-old Texas man. However, police said “suspicious activity” was detected immediately. As a result, the trooper contacted the West Terre Haute Police department, who deployed a K-9 to sniff the semi truck.Â
(NOTE: 13News has a policy not to name suspects until formal charges are filed by a prosecutor.)
The K-9 gave officers enough probable cause to search the truck, and police reportedly found marijuana, synthetic urine and a handgun.Â
Additionally, police said the suspect was allegedly showing signs of impairment, but refused to submit to a field sobriety test or chemical test.Â
The suspect was then booked at the Vigo County Jail on preliminary charges of possession of a weapon by a serious violent felon, possession of synthetic urine, possession of marijuana and operating while intoxicated. Jail records show he is being held on $35,000 bond.Â
