SAN ANTONIO – One man is dead, and another has been hospitalized after a dispute turned to gunfire at a West Side apartment complex.
Police are investigating a deadly shooting at an apartment complex after officers were called to a “shooting in progress” at 6:05 pm at an apartment complex near Waters Edge and Horal Drive.
Officers arriving at the complex found two victims with gunshot wounds, police said. One victim, a 22-year-old Black man, had an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
He was taken to the hospital by EMS, but was pronounced dead while en route, police said.
A second victim, a 19-year-old male, was found at the scene with a gunshot wound to the abdomen that appeared to be “a through and through,” entering the abdomen and exiting the backside, police said.
He was transported by EMS to University Hospital and was listed in stable condition.
Police said preliminary information indicates the shooting stemmed from “some sort of disturbance” and that it appears gunshots were exchanged by the parties involved.
Investigators said they do not yet know how many people were involved or what the disturbance entailed, and they are still working to determine whether the two people who were shot were also suspects or whether a larger disturbance escalated into gunfire.
Crime scene investigators and the homicide unit were on scene as the investigation continued.
Tactical officers were also clearing some apartments “out of an abundance of caution,” police said, based on initial information that the two victims live in the complex in separate units.
Police said they are not aware of any active threat at the complex and that the disturbance had subsided.
Officers have removed some occupants from an apartment and were speaking with them as part of the investigation, police said.
