CLOVIS, N.M. (KCBD) – Two people were killed early Sunday after a vehicle caught fire following a head-on collision with a semi-truck at the intersection of Grand Street and 7th Street in Clovis, New Mexico.
The crash was reported at approximately 1:42 a.m. Officers from the Clovis Police Department, Clovis Fire Department, and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames with two occupants inside the front passenger compartment. Both were pronounced dead at the scene after the fire was extinguished.
A third occupant was ejected during the collision. That person was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center and later transferred to a hospital in Texas for further treatment.
The Clovis Police Department Major Crash Team is investigating the incident. Preliminary findings indicate the black Cadillac was traveling eastbound on 7th Street at a high rate of speed when it crossed a concrete median into the westbound lane and struck a slow-moving semi-truck head-on.
The semi-truck driver was not injured but was evaluated at the scene by Clovis Fire Department EMS personnel as a precaution.
