AUSTIN (KXAN) — Josh Livingston erupted for two home runs, including a grand slam, to help No. 3 Texas complete a sweep of USC Upstate 13-3 in eight innings on Sunday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

Livingston, a transfer from Wichita State, clubbed his grand slam as part of a 5-run sixth inning for the Longhorns, and then followed it in the eighth with a 2-run blast. He finished the game 3-for-4 with six RBIs and nine total bases.

Livingston’s breakout game powers Texas’ sweep

Longhorns head coach Jim Schlossnagle has been waiting for Livingston to have a breakout game like this.

“We’ve gotten contributions from a lot of different people this season, and today it was Josh,” he said. “I’m super happy for him; he’s one of the hardest workers on the team. He just hadn’t been rewarded for all of his work, but he had a lot better at-bats today.”

Livingston hit 15 home runs and slugged .555 in 56 games for the Shockers last season, so clearly the power has been there all along. It just took him a little while, like Schlossnagle said, to see the fruits of his labor.
