It is safe to say that El Paso’s music scene has been having a serious moment on national television lately and honestly, I am HERE FOR IT!!

Just recently, local singer Julian Kalel captured the attention of American Idol judges and audiences, earning a golden ticket, a standing ovation during Hollywood Week, and a spot in the show’s Top 30. His journey has given the Borderland plenty to cheer about as he continues chasing his dream on one of television’s biggest stages. But Julian isn’t the only El Paso talent stepping into the national spotlight.

Another local artist is about to represent the Sun City on a major music competition, but this time on NBC’s hit show The Voice. El Paso native Aziz Guerra will be featured on Season 29 of the series, bringing yet another wave of hometown pride to the big stage.

Bringing Mariachi Culture and Roots to Hollywood

Aziz, a Coronado High School alum, is currently studying at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, one of the most respected music schools in the world. During his time there, he helped make history as one of the founding members of Mariachi Cuauhtli, Berklee’s first-ever mariachi group. The group gained attention for their show stopping performances, including a memorable roadside performance during the 2025 Boston Marathon that showcased their talent and cultural pride.

Now, Aziz will get the opportunity to share his voice with a national audience. His appearance on The Voice is set to air Monday, March 9 at 7:00 p.m. MST on NBC, where viewers will get to see the El Paso singer perform and take his shot at impressing the show’s celebrity coaches.

With Julian Kalel making waves on American Idol and Aziz Guerra stepping onto The Voice stage, it’s clear that El Paso’s young artists are proving the Borderland is full of talent ready for the spotlight.
