19-year-old sentenced to 15 years after pleading guilty to shooting at Lubbock County deputy

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A 19-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday morning to his role in a shooting involving a deputy with the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office.

Devin Hernandez was sentenced to 15 years in prison by Judge Douglas Freitag in the 140th District Court. Hernandez pleaded guilty to an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge.

Back in August of 2025, a deputy was shot at while searching for a wanted felon at 34th and Salem. The deputy was not struck or injured in the shooting.

26-year-old Jamie Flores and 25-year-old Tamajhe Turner were arrested in connection with the shooting.

Turner remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center on multiple charges. Flores is not listed in the Lubbock County jail roster.

A fourth person was arrested at the time of the shooting but was released by officers.
