AUSTIN, Texas — A suspect has been arrested in connection with the July 12, 2024, homicide of Edgar Yudiel Granados, according to the Austin Police Department.

On July 12, 2024, at approximately 4:02 a.m., officers from the Austin Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence in the 8200 block of Grayledge Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered the body of Edgar Yudiel Granados, a Hispanic male born on November 8, 1992. Granados was pronounced dead at the scene by Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services.

The investigation, which was initially in its early stages, has now led to the arrest of 26-year-old Chance Barrett, a Black male and former roommate of the victim. Barrett was taken into custody on February 27, 2026, on an unrelated charge and was formally charged with First-Degree Murder on March 2, 2026, in connection with Granados’s death.

The case is being investigated as Austin’s 33rd homicide of 2024. The Austin Police Department continues to seek information from the public.
