Life in Lubbock comes with its own unique set of experiences. The weather has a personality, the sky is friggin’ enormous, and somewhere, everything in town is either “about 10 minutes away” or “across town,” which is also, somehow…about 10 minutes away…
It got me thinking…if Netflix created a category specifically for Lubbock folk, what kind of movies and shows would it include? We’d probably spend more time scrolling through these than actually watching them, but what the heck. Here’s what I’m thinking:

A thrilling category where the main characters attempt to do things like get out of their cars at the grocery store during a haboob without the door ripping clean off. Plot twists include rogue trashcans, flying trampolines, and hailstorms that come out of nowhere.

We would certainly have some movies and series based on college life. You know the kind. Wild adventures in boozing it up, love interests, and somehow passing the final after only studying for 5 minutes right beforehand. Bonus episodes would include game day traffic and finding a parking spot anywhere near campus in the nick of time.

I mean, they could begin at Whataburger, too. Two people meet. Sparks fly. BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwiches for all. That’s love, y’all.

There could be an entire docu-series featuring stories from Lubbock residents who were only supposed to be here for one year. Relatable as hell.
Photo by Moritz Kindler on UnsplashPrairie Dog True Crime
A suspenseful wildlife documentary that follows the furry residents of Prairie Dog Town as they keep a close eye on the strange humans that are constantly watching them and pointing cameras at them. At the end of each episode, the prairie dogs dramatically disappear into their holes, leaving us all on the edge of our seats.
Hey, Netflix! Give me a call if you need help to launch a “Lubbock Edition.” I’ve got ideas!
