If you like to treat your dog, why not help a local business at the same time?

I’m still a little bummed about the loss of Three Dog Bakery in Lubbock. Yes, it was a national chain, but the local franchise owner was wonderful — caring, community-minded, and genuinely passionate about pets. Losing that place full of doggy delights was a big one for the Hub City. It was great for grabbing fresh treats for our little pack, and it played a role in a lot of pet moments too — from celebrating gotcha days to helping say goodbye on a pet’s final ride.

While wandering the treat aisle recently, something caught my eye that I hadn’t noticed before. Maybe it’s been there a while, but when you’re staring at roughly one hundred bazillion dog treats, chews, and snacks, it’s easy to miss something.

Missing Three Dog Bakery? These Slaton-Made Dog Treats Are Worth Trying

So here’s the discovery: United Market Street now carries “Donuts for Doggies” made by the Slaton Bakery. That’s about as fresh and local as it gets. My dogs absolutely love them, and they’re a great size too — not too big, not too small. If you want to go the extra mile, smear a little peanut butter in the hole and you’ve basically made your dog’s entire day.

And if you’ve never made the trip to Slaton Bakery, you should. One hundred percent. You’ll probably leave with about 17 things for yourself, but you’ll also find the Donuts for Doggies in their prepackaged section. These treats are made right there at the bakery using human-grade ingredients — which technically means you could eat them, but they’re definitely designed for a dog’s palate.

They’re BBQ flavored… and no, I’m not going to try one for the benefit of this post.
