EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Spring break is bringing extended hours, special animal programs and hands-on experiences to the El Paso Zoo & Botanical Gardens, where families can spend more time exploring exhibits and cooling off at the splash pad.

Through March 29, the zoo will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering visitors extra time to see animal habitats and take part in spring break activities.

Visitors can also sign up for one of the zoo’s 11 Animal Encounters, which provide up-close opportunities to learn about animals’ diets, habitats and behaviors from zoo experts while meeting some of the zoo’s animals.

We’re excited to welcome families for Spring Break and give them more time to explore and connect with the animals,” El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens Interim Director Gary Lunsford said. “With extended hours and special activities, visitors can enjoy weeks of unforgettable experiences while gaining a deeper appreciation for wildlife from around the world.

The zoo is also highlighting the Hunt Family Desert Spring splash pad, a desert-themed water play area with dancing water jets, gushers, pop-its and interactive rock formations.

Food options during spring break include restaurants and snack stands serving fresh salads, deli sandwiches, pizza, burgers, hand-battered chicken strips and drinks. The Beastro Kiosk also offers ICEEs, Dippin’ Dots and splash pad essentials.

The El Paso Zoo & Botanical Gardens spans 35 acres and is home to more than 220 animal species, including many that are critically endangered.
