The Cowboys and defensive end Sam Williams agreed to a new one-year, $3 million deal, a person with knowledge of the move told The Dallas Morning News. NFL Network’s Jane Slater and Mike Garafolo had it first.

Williams, a former second-round pick out of Ole Miss, was an unrestricted free agent after wrapping up his rookie deal.

Williams recorded 9.5 sacks over the course of his rookie deal with the Cowboys.

Williams showed flashes of the ability that once made him a second-round pick, but he struggled with consistency over his time in Dallas. A torn ACL prior to the start of the 2024 season didn’t help that hope for consistency, either.

The Cowboys had interest in signing Williams to an extension prior to the 2025 season. Williams then started only five games and had only one sack.

Williams will be 27 when next season kicks off.
