One of San Antonio’s most-missed restaurants is making a comeback — well, sort of. Six years after Southtown’s Feast shuttered, owner Andrew Goodman is resurrecting the concept for a holiday takeover, November 5 through December 31 at Battalion, 604 S Alamo St.
“Ever since Feast closed, friends and patrons have been asking me — will you ever reopen Feast?” explained Goodman in an online statement. “And the answer was mostly ‘no’ until now. Instead of reopening Feast, I have decided to have a Feast takeover at Battalion.”
When Feast opened in September 2011, it was unlike anything San Antonio diners had ever seen. Goodman gave the space the ambiance and energy of a Las Vegas club, filling the flamboyant interior with transparent chairs, bubble lighting, and vibrant contemporary art.
Under the direction of founding chef Stefan Bowers, the food was just as bold. Feast frequently changed its small plates menu, which was divided into vibey columns like “hearty” and “chilled.” The King William restaurant took a panoptic approach to international cuisine, serving Goan shrimp curry, Moroccan-spiced goat, and Tunisian falafel.
Much has changed in the San Antonio culinary scene since Feast went dark in December 2019. Carpenter Carpenter Hospitality took over the building in 2021 to open pricey seafood spot Up Scale, which shuttered in 2024 to make way for a larger version of the group’s Little Em’s Oyster Bar.
In 2021, the prolific business partnership between Bowers and Goodman dissolved, with Goodman retaining Battalion and Bowers taking on ownership of Playland while continuing to serve as the executive chef at the St. Anthony Hotel’s Rebelle. The latter two have since shuttered, with Playland folding in 2022 and Rebelle shuttering in January.
It’s unclear which of Feast’s dishes will be revived for the pop-up, but the holiday stint is bound to be boozy. The restaurant was known for its cocktails and wine list as much as its cuisine.
“I’m ready to provide the drinks, the plates, and the atmosphere,” wrote Goodman. “All I need is for you to show up and join in the fun that is Feast!”
