Most of this activity will stay below severe criteria; however, one or two could be strong with heavy rain and gusty winds. Our main threat for severe weather ramps up this evening and tonight. Widespread showers and storms are expected after sunset this evening through Wednesday, with all modes of severe weather possible. Large hail and even a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out. North Texas, the Texas Hill Country and South-Central Texas will have the greatest risk. Heavy rain will also be a threat, leading to localized flash flooding in some areas into early Wednesday morning.

1. Two teen brothers in Texas mariachi band are released from ICE custody amid bipartisan criticism
A family whose two teen boys are in a nationally recognized mariachi band in South Texas was reunited Monday afternoon after bipartisan criticism that the Trump administration’s campaign for mass deportation overreached by detaining the family.
Brothers Antonio Gámez-Cuéllar, 18, and Joshua, 14, were detained along with their 12-year-old brother and their parents Feb. 25. The teenage boys were prominent members of the McAllen High School Mariachi Oro band, which has visited the White House, performed at Carnegie Hall and won eight state championships.
2. Augie Meyers, Tex-Mex music legend, dies at 85
August “Augie” Meyers, a San Antonio native and famous Tex-Mex artist, died on March 7 at the age of 85, according to a Facebook post from his family.
Meyers was a founding member of the Sir Douglas Quintet and the Texas Tornados, the latter of which won a Grammy for best Mexican-American performance in 1991 for the song “Soy De San Luis.” Meyers’ family said that this wife was by his side when he passed away and thankful for his friends and fan support.
3. Internal audit reveals oversight gaps in City of Austin consultant services
An internal audit reveals consultant services for the City of Austin in the last several years may have had oversight gaps.
Auditors reviewed 28 consultant contracts with the city, finding that the city might not be able to show that consultant services were justified or that they helped the city meet objectives or resident needs.

Athena the owl returns to Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
A beloved Austin celebrity is back in town, and it’s not Matthew McConaughey.
Athena the great horned owl returned to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center last week for another egg-laying season. The mother-of-many has hatched owlets above the center’s courtyard entrance since 2012, earning the title of Official Owl Ambassador from the City of Austin last year and a webpage on the botanic garden’s website.
