With the Java House Grand Prix of Arlington just around the corner, Arlington residents should be prepared for heavy traffic delays beginning tomorrow, March 11. The road closures will impact traffic until the end of the event, which begins March 13 and runs through March 15.

The Arlington Police Department shared that North Collins Street will be shut down near Randol Mill Road and Stadium Drive starting at 3 a.m. for track construction. One southbound lane will remain open, but will be closed by Friday morning, March 13, for the festivities. Additional roads face closures during the duration of the event.

Other major roads surrounding the Entertainment District that will face delays include parts of AT&T Way, Cowboys Way, Stadium Drive/Ballpark Way and Nolan Ryan Expressway.

Tim Ciesco, a spokesperson for the Arlington Police Department, recommended that those who are not going to the event and want to avoid traffic should take Center Street or Cooper Street to avoid major delays.

“Obviously, here in Arlington, in our Entertainment District, we’re used to hosting big events, but we’ve never experienced something that’s quite like this,” Ciesco said. “We’re really asking folks who are planning on coming to the event this weekend to plan ahead and adjust from what they’re normally used to.”

Ciesco also stated that normal entrances to parking lots will not be available, and that Grand Prix attendees should check where they can park for their already prepaid parking ticket before arriving at the event.

If attendees plan to park in the south area of the stadium, they should consider going down the Texas 360 freeway and coming in from Division Street. If attendees plan to park on the north or east side, it is recommended to take Road to Six Flags as opposed to Randol Mill Road.

Ciesco said that attendees can plan ahead by downloading the Arlington Grand Prix app, which will have a map of available parking lots and access points to the stadium. If attendees did not purchase parking before the event, they can purchase it at the designated lots on-site.

“We just hope everybody has a fun time this weekend,” Ciesco said. “We’re anticipating a fun, safe event for everybody.”
