A beloved, longtime Fiesta San Antonio event that flocks thousands of locals to the University of the Incarnate Word each year – and dons the name of a wealthy San Antonio-area town – is officially canceled, stirring upset and rumors across the city. Alamo Heights Night is officially on hiatus, but many questions remain.

For decades, since 1987, the Alamo Heights Rotary Club operated Alamo Heights Night as a sort of block party. The event location moved from a more traditional block party, held at the city pool back in 2010, to the UIW campus as interest boomed and far exceeded to confines of being a “Party Time in ‘09” for purely Alamo Heights residents. Back then, it was drawing in some 12,000 partygoers and angering neighbors.

Now, the event has been placed on a mysterious “pause,” as community leaders remain mum. MySA reached out to the City of Alamo Heights, the Fiesta San Antonio Commission, the Alamo Heights Night LLC and the Alamo Heights Rotary Club but did not hear back by publication time.

The University of the Incarnate Word, where the event has been held, told MySA it had no role in the decision to pause the event.

“Although Alamo Heights Night has been held here for years now, it is not actually a UIW run event. We are simply the place where the Rotary Club holds it. As such, we have no say in the “pause” of the event or when it will be held again,” a UIW spokesperson said.

The Alamo Heights Night website confirms the abrupt move saying, “the 2026 Alamo Heights Night has been paused and will not occur on April 17, 2026.”

It’s unclear whose decision it was to halt the events progress, originally scheduled for April 17 at the UIW campus this year. It’s also unclear if the annual event will remain an official Fiesta San Antonio program event or if it will be rescheduled for 2026 at all.

A lawsuit, obtained by MySA, was filed earlier this year naming several organizations connected to Alamo Heights Night, including the Fiesta San Antonio Commission, Alamo Heights Night LLC, the Alamo Heights Rotary Club, the University of the Incarnate Word and a man who was reportedly volunteering at the event in 2024. It is unclear whether the filing is related to the event’s “pause.”

The lawsuit filed on behalf of Stella Bustos and Irma Jean Garza on January 15 claims the two plaintiffs sustained serious injuries at the Alamo Heights Night event at UIW in April of 2024. The lawsuit claims the two were hit by an electric golf cart driven by an event volunteer, Ronald “Ronnie” Greenberg,” and each reportedly sustained injuries to their heads, neck, backs and other body parts, according to the lawsuit.

On March 9, Greenberg, Alamo Heights Night LLC and the rotary club responded to the suit denying all accusations. The response also notes that the event LLC and the rotary club are two separate entities.
